What is coaching
If you have zero idea what life coaching is, I feel you. A year ago I was living in Denver, loving my city but hating my job and not sure what to do. I was in my apartment staring over Union Station in Denver scouring the internet for yet another job that would suit me. I graduated from college with two degrees, one in Communications and one in Journalism, just to end up in sales and business for the next three years.
I wanted to quit my second corporate job in three years after I graduated and I felt like a failure. I was that millennial old people complain about “not paying their dues” and “not knowing hard work” 🙃Confused? Yeah, I was too. I was told that’s where the money is, you have to work in business, you’re too young to be this or that….
But I felt the opposite. I wasn’t working hard enough, I wasn’t being fulfilled. I loved problem-solving and helping people and that’s when I discovered life coaching.
After a looooooong and thought-out process I decided to quit my job, and go back to school and start my own company at age 24.
So here I am. Hopeful to inspire, encourage and help young adults work for the life they want to live. I knew back then I wanted to do something where I was helping others, I loved working through problems but hated the boring every day is the same at work. I wanted to help change lives, but how? My mom, who has her Ph.D. in business negotiations and is a consultant for family businesses, suggested coaching. By the first google search, I was hooked.
Coaching is completely client lead. How much the client wants out of coaching is how much they will succeed. It is about the energy you carry with you. Ever heard the saying energy attracts like energy?? Exactly. You will learn how to shift energy from “I want to” to “I will” to “ugh, I am having a terrible day” to “a few bad things happened today, how can I pick myself up?"
This shift shows that if you choose to change one aspect of your life in a direction that better serves you it will shift other areas of your life to create an all-around better life.
Picture your life as a wheel with many spokes. Family being one spoke, relationships as another, career, intimacy, health, faith -- all spokes. If you were to rank every spoke 0-10, 0 being not very satisfied and 10 being satisfied what would you rank each one? Now make every rating represent an inch on your spoke. Rating family as a seven would be seven inches, career as five would be five inches.
Would your wheel work?
Coaching is specific to one area, but you create your path with your coaching to get a life you didn’t think possible. You are working on every spoke, so you can use that wheel to drive your life.
